Possum Point Players

As a long-time supporter of the theatre and Possum Point Players who has thoroughly enjoyed their past, spectacular productions like Sondheim on Sondheim, Ripcord, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, it pains me to write this, but the current production of Mary Poppins fell incredibly flat. I ultimately had to leave at intermission. My critique is strictly for the technical execution of this specific show, not the theatre group itself. It felt as though the production tried to do way too much, way too fast, and simply ran out of time. The set was visibly incomplete (complete with painter's tape still on the doors), and the stage crew aggressively handled the fragile pieces during painfully long, highly visible scene changes that broke all momentum. Visually and auditorily, it was a massive struggle. The pit orchestra sounded out of tune, body mics constantly cut out or crackled, and some actors' mics weren't turned on at all. Spotlights consistently missed the active actors, and a blinding backlight was aimed directly into the audience's eyes for large portions of the first act. I give immense credit and props to the actors. They were clearly giving it their absolute all and trying their hardest to pull through a very chaotic environment. The ambition and good intentions were there, but the technical follow-through just wasn't ready for an audience. I know what this playhouse is capable of when they focus on execution, and while this rushed production was a miss, I still look forward to their future shows.

Definitely my favorite community theatre in the area both to perform at and so see shows at. Beautiful building, plenty of parking, as an audience member every show I've seen has been top notch for community theatre, and as a performer everyone involved has always been a delight to work with.

Possum Point Players is a great spot to catch fun local theater productions! Keep an eye on their schedule and pick something that seems fun. Our most recent visit was to see La Cage Au Folles, and enjoyed the various performances in the production. Arrive early if you need to park closer to the door.

Classy local theater with heart! Locals endeavor to stage quality and exciting theater that should make this community proud. We saw It’s a Wonderful Life. The actors poured out their hearts into a fabulous rendition of the classic made even more endearing by the commitment of the actors especially AMY Baker Sheridan and support staff. Just lovely. We sat in the front row but I would recommend the second or third as better options. Must see and support this fantastic local gem!
