Outstanding community organization and location. Leadership next to none. I strongly recommend events to be held here in the community
LOVE the sports programs they offer for the youth here!
Apparently it is grossly under funded, as football practice for boys age 10 was recently being held across the street from the rec itself. There were 2 separate practices taking place, each one in a small mowed area which were at the front of a large open field. The parking lot closest to that area where they were holding practice is the original parking area that was used before all the new renovations that took place many years ago. It is a complete mess with numerous large pot holes in the concrete. Easy to assume it hasn’t been maintained since it was first paved no telling how many decades ago. I would hope that as valuable as this rec department is for all the youth in Pierce County, local businesses would take the opportunity to meet some of the financial needs that need to be met. Recreational sports are instrumental in the development & sharpening of skills in our youth that would otherwise go unnoticed, to the detriment of so many. Whether it’s expansion of the land or better parking areas, as wonderful of a place as Blackshear really is, it would be great to see the recreation department reflect that as well.
Bathrooms were clean and air conditioned. Concessions are pricy, bring your own. Charge $5 to get in and cannot seem to replace the field lights.
