Penn State's School of Music runs the Honors Music Institute, a week-long residential summer music program for students entering grades 9 through 12 on the University Park campus in State College. Participants live in North Halls and spend the week in masterclasses, private lessons, chamber ensembles and music classes, choosing a track in wind ensemble, chamber choir, jazz combo, piano, composition or music technology. Admission is by YouTube video audition reviewed by institute faculty, so the program is aimed at experienced student musicians rather than beginners.

★★Ian EverhartThis rating is for the ticket system. We are headed to State College this weekend, and I was excited to see a great program for Saturday night. Advance tickets are $5 cheaper, so I went to go look into buying those. Buying tickets online or on the phone incurs a $4 Ticketmaster fee, per ticket, so it is really only a $1 discount. Plus, you have to sign up for an account to buy online, with no guest option, which doesn't make sense for us as visitors. Materials are quite misleading to suggest you can save $5 per ticket. At best, it is $1.
