I went to this summer camp for the majority of my childhood. There are pictures of me scattered across their platforms from the time I was 8 to 14. I am a good bit older now and I wish I could think back and reflect on more happy memories here. Unfortunately, when I do reflect on my childhood experiences here, one memory of my time here at camp remains prominent. This camp, under the leadership of Al Squitieri (the very man who baptized me), sat all their young impressionable young campers down in a room, and after a lesson on why gay people are sinful, made each child stand up and publicly announce if they would go to their theoretical child's gay wedding in front of a large part of the camp staff and all your peers. They assured the camp staff would not judge you if you answered in favor of going to your theoretical child's gay wedding, but that was unfortunately not the case. I felt this lesson activity was highly inappropriate, even as a young 13-year-old. This memory plays in my head time and time again on the absence of love in Christian lessons from this camp and the teachings they were giving at this time. All that being said, if you knew me in my time at camp, most of the time I was very happy. My brain was not developed enough to process the ignorant teachings here yet. There are great members on staff who are caring and wonderful to me who treated me like their own kids. And there are members who definitely should not have been working with children. I assume the same could be said for a lot of businesses. I would never send my kids here without learning the specifics of what they will be teaching your kids, and I would ask your kids to verify that they stuck to these specifics upon coming home.
My kids have gone to camp here for the past 3 years, they love it. The staff does a great job with the activities food and teaching. My kids are definitely making great memories by going here.
Great place for the kids to go camping for the week make new friends
My Mom was the nurse there while I was growing up, late 60's early 70's. It was awesome. I was there when the pool was first put in before that we had to swim in Lake Ontario. Fishing was good. I will always remember the bell ringing for each meal. We used to climb up and tie towels around it so it would not ring. Alan Shields Bradenton, Fl
