What an amazing piece of History this Heritage Center and Museum is...fun for all ages..where else can you walk thru time and ages for a few dollars and feel like you were living there too! Trains where you can walk thru sit in the passenger cars see how mail cars brout correspondences across the United States! Or see an original dug out canoe,bald eagle and arrowheads..oh and beautiful works of art from local artisans that change monthly! They have art,photography,quilting, model train guilds that meet weekly...art camp for kids is coming in July..really go check this place out! Ample parking including disabled and veterans directly in front of building...They have quarterly newsletter showing the many events and markets ongoing .. Easy to become a member and go as group as they have multiple places there to rent for family reunions,organizations,and clubs ..checkout their online site so you can see how much there is to do at this very unique experience Beautiful place inside and on grounds...Carla the Director at OHC is very knowledgeable and has map of all the buildings for your self guided leisure tour...such a fun place I go at least once a week as there are new additions to displays and they rotate the art gallery so every month there is new showing...exciting for kids learning new skills and for adults to reminisce about the Good ol Days!

Me and my son stopped by to visit. We were not welcomed by anyone so we just started looking around after a min or 2 a dark haired older woman approached us and had us come to the desk and started questioning us like we were doing something wrong then gave me a paper explaining the center to us which is what she should have done when we entered. She was rude and not very welcoming. We continued walking around and walked into another part of the museum where a tall man was putting a exhibit up i said hello but he just turned and looked at us like we were trash. We left and won't be back and certainly will not recommend this museum to anyone. Response.. We left the 10 dollars in the donation box hopefully that covers your fee. You can verify that with the tall shy gentleman monitoring are exit.

A friend recommended that I visit the Okefenokee Heritage Center when I asked if there were any museums in ware county. I was pleasantly surprised, and it turns out this facility is a wonderful tourist attraction in my own city of Waycross, S. Georgia. If you're a train buff, check this place out as they have old historical trains, that you can peruse through. If you are historical buff that has to do with anything related to indian heritage, black american heritage and local historical locations, you would be interested to visit this very wonderful and well maintained attraction. It looks like they are in constant repair to maintain the different buildings and always updating with new and wonderful Historical items. The one attraction that really affected me was the building, which contained the section of a gigantic cypress tree that had been cut and inside was the remains fully intact of a hunting hound dog. This dog was obviously after a small varment and then crawled inside the hole of this tree, crawled up about 20 feet at which point was stuck and could not back out. According to the director of this facility, the dog was approximately 68 yrs old, 4 years old dog years and 64 years petrified in the tree before being found. Please be prepared as this broke My heart and I think anyone that views this exhibit will realize the same feelings. The pictures attached is a good representation of what was there, however I suggest a day trip in person to get the full experience. This facility lives on donations, as well as there is a small entrance fee. Senior Citizens = $3.00 Regular = $5.00 Check the hours and days open on google. If you're an educator and you haven't been to this facility, you're missing out.

Carla is the director and she is super friendly and helpful. I learned a lot during the tour. So much to see and do. Loved the displays and the history of the Okefenokee swamp
