The Northwest Activities Center is a City of Detroit Parks & Recreation centre at 18100 Meyers Rd, open Monday to Friday 8am-9pm and Saturday 9am-5pm. Its facilities include a swimming pool, locker rooms, sauna and steam room along with spaces used for recreation programs, fitness, community events and classes, and memberships and programs are booked through the city's RecTrac portal. Third-party listings name it as one of the sites used for Detroit Parks & Recreation summer day camps, but the city's page for the centre does not set out camp ages, dates or hours.

Powered by GoogleIf you’re looking for community, wellness, and value all in one place, Northwest Activities Center is definitely the place to be! For only $25 a year, you get access to a pool, sauna, steam room, gym, and a variety of classes and so much more, which is honestly phenomenal and far more affordable than most gym memberships. The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which makes the experience even better. My salon and home are both less than a mile away, so the convenience is a huge bonus for me. I’ll definitely be a lifelong member!
Review for the Northwest Activities Center: The facility itself is actually nice and clean, and you can tell effort is put into maintaining the space. That part I definitely appreciate. However, the overall experience is brought down by the customer service. The staff didn’t seem very engaged or welcoming — not even a simple “good morning” when walking in. It gave off a very unmotivated and inattentive vibe, which makes a big difference when you’re visiting a community center. The location also isn’t the best, and unfortunately that impacts the overall feel of the place. With better-trained, more customer-focused employees, this place could be a lot better because the building itself has potential. Right now, it just feels like a missed opportunity.
I was continously assisted by the staff here with my Unemployment Claim. They are friendly and accommodating. They happened to also have a working relationship with my place of employment. However, they weren't biased. I'll plan to return for any and all services they provide. Thank you very much for your support. Peace!
I took swim and water aerobics classes from November to December 2025. I really enjoyed the classes and can't say enough positive things about Cossandra. She is an exceptional water aerobics instructor and lifeguard. She is incredibly energetic, passionate, and engaging, and it shows in every class she leads. Her enthusiasm is contagious and makes each session both motivating and enjoyable. I highly recommend her class. She is also a kind, patient, and congenial lifeguard who makes everyone feel safe and welcome. As a swim instructor, she is especially encouraging and skilled with beginner swimmers. She offers helpful techniques that ease anxiety, build confidence, and help students become comfortable in the water while developing strong swimming skills. Mr. Shawn is another excellent lifeguard and swim instructor. He is patient, kind and truly takes his time with beginner swimmers to help them build confidence in the water. He is especially flexible and thoughtful when working with individuals with special needs, always ensuring safety while teaching at each individual’s learning level. They are truly a wonderful asset to NWAC and our community. I only wish the Sauna was working. It was down during most of my visit. It was reported a part was on back order. I hope it will be up and running by my next visit this month. Jacqueline
We were invited to speak about health and wellness to two groups of senior citizens at the Northwest Activities Center. They asked several great questions about how to be healthier, how to have less pain, how to control high blood pressure, and better manage diabetes. I love speaking at these events because it’s an opportunity to help people achieve their health goals. As for the building, clean, nice, easy to access from the parking lot. Large parking lot that was mostly filled at the time of the event. There was also a mobile food pantry at the time that I went, and I think it’s a monthly amenity.
