North Austin Club Z, After-School & Summer Camp

I was looking to see where to send my kid and came across Club Z while reading reviews. I noticed one review in particular, and since I was there that day, I want to share what I saw. The City of Austin’s public pools and splash pads are open to everyone. That means multiple groups—daycares, summer camps, and individual families—can and often do share the pool at the same time. There isn’t a policy that gives one group exclusive access. On the day in question, there were several camps and families present alongside City of Austin programs, and no issues came up with anyone—except Club Z. The only group that caused a disruption and yelled at lifeguards and City of Austin camp counselors was Club Z. Every other group followed the rules and worked together to make sure the kids were safe and having fun. The lifeguards and City staff are trained professionals whose number one priority is safety. They are fully capable of managing multiple groups at once, and they did exactly that. What’s more concerning is how the owner of Club Z responded to that review. The tone alone shows they think very highly of themselves and very little of others. Instead of taking responsibility or showing respect to the staff and other camps present, they chose to deflect and make excuses. That attitude speaks volumes. It’s important to set the record straight: this wasn’t a matter of unsafe conditions or broken policies. It was a matter of one group not wanting to share space that is, by design, open to the public. Since then, I’ve been back to the same pool several times with different camps present at once, and none of them have had any issues—except for Club Z.

We love Club Z!! My son (6) attended for the summer and had a fantastic time. The staff were all so sweet and engaged with the kids and the owner Tony always greeted him with a smile and a high five! Leila would also send me pics of him sometimes having fun. I would hear from my son at the end of the day all about his adventures and how much fun he had. They do field trips every week and go to the pool too. It’s a fantastic value and we already let them know we’ll be back next year (per my son’s request). Thanks again for an amazing summer!

I was recently at a City of Austin pool and witnessed a troubling interaction involving the owner of Club Z. Two City of Austin employees were there with a group of kids as part of a summer camp. They were getting the children settled and preparing for a swim test—something completely normal and appropriate. I overheard him tell one of the staff that the lifeguards were going to kick them out for arriving a few minutes early, even though the lifeguards themselves didn’t seem to have any issue and were handling the situation professionally. The camp counselors were clearly not doing anything wrong. While one of the lifeguards was calmly speaking with the counselors, the Club Z owner approached and began aggressively confronting them. Despite this, the Club Z owner continued to yell at them, even while the lifeguard was still talking. It was unnecessary and completely inappropriate behavior—especially in front of children and toward people just doing their jobs. This incident left a really bad impression. If this is how the owner handles himself in public, I would seriously reconsider trusting him or his program with kids. Don’t send your children here.

My children have been going here since 2019. I absolutely love this place! Tony and Layla are kind, professional and are amazing at what they do. My kiddos look forward to going to club z every summer and after school. 100% recommend!
