★Wheel TroubleI was a member for a few years, and have steadily observed things going downhill. Let's start with the minor issues. The weight machines are showing their age. Many of the machines are cracking on the pads, which may be uncomfortable. Speaking of the weight room, there are 4 lights. One of them has been out for over a month! With how much I was paying for the family package, surely they could afford a light bulb. That leads us to light bulbs. They only recently got around to covering an exposed light fixture in the guys shower after MONTHS of it being in disrepair. Water and electricity, what a lovely combo. That leads us to the pool. The Aquatics Coordinator (according to FB)/head lifeguard isn't exactly the person you want to trust your life with. I recall one occasion where I was swimming laps, and she was in tennis shoes and socks. Life guards are supposed to be ready to jump in pretty well asap in the event that someone is in a state where they cannot grab the pole/life ring on their own power. Good thing I can swim... Another occasion, I managed to use the hot tub for 20 minutes before the lifeguard even realized I was there... as I was leaving. He much rather just sit in their office on his phone. Other lifeguards were actually fairly decent, patrolling and the like, but it's obvious that the tone was set by leadership. Finally, I killed my membership today, specifically because of the quality of services going downhill fast. When I first signed on, there was a sauna. They couldn't keep the high schoolers out (because in spite of it being in the lifeguard patrolled area, they didn't patrol) and they kept destroying the heating unit. Eventually, they decided to upgrade the Y. Pretty cool on paper, but they're shifting to a shared-space style locker room, and gutting the hot tub. As a result, I had to go out and buy my own sauna for any sort of heat therapy for my workouts. It's a good thing they're upgrading, however, as there is an exposed drain in the men's bathroom that, rather than actually fixing, they've just addressed with an orange cone for the ENTIRE TIME I've been a member. Also, rules are optional here. The amount of rules you need to follow are inversely proportional to how good of a friend you are to the lead staff. This is really a shame, as this is more-or-less the only game in town (the Y even has control over the city pool now), and they are a key component to the community.
★Angie StewartThis place is unsanitary, has mold issues, things are shut down, the pool is literally falling apart, dirty air vents and poor air circulation. The manager in the pool area is unprofessional. However, the man working at the front desk seemed decently friendly. This used to be a nice place. What happened? I wish we had gone to Mitch Park YMCA. What a disappointment😞
