Momentum Indoor Climbing's Sandy gym runs summer climbing camps for ages 4-16, with morning sessions (8:00am-11:30am) for ages 4-6, 7-12, and 12-16 and afternoon sessions (12:30pm-4:00pm) for ages 4-6 and 7-12. Campers learn climbing techniques and build confidence on the indoor walls. Momentum operates several Utah locations.

Powered by GoogleThe kid's classes are not adequately supervised. I understand that children like to do what they do and I don't blame them at all, the issue is the "adults" (and/or 16 year olds) that are supposed to be watching them and teaching them about safety and etiquette who are not doing that. It seems like the common refrain from management is "kid's classes are only from 4-6 so just come at other times". This is a frankly stupid response. One because most people work for a living and the time they have available tends to intersect with the hours of 4-6, I'm not available at 2pm so it doesn't really matter to me if the gym is even open at that time. Two because the only acceptable number of hours to have a huge group of kids being a nuisance and a hazard is 0 hours, the excuse that it's "only" two hours is preposterous. I've been a member of plenty of climbing gyms and almost all of them have kid's teams, usually all this means is that the gym will be busy, at momentum it means the gym will be between frustrating and unusable. The fact that the yoga room is closed outside of class time is insane. The fitness space at this location is VERY tight, on busy hours if you want to do any sort of stretching/mobility/calisthenics work you're going to have a hard time staying out of other people's way, the fact that this big space is mostly sitting unused is completely unreasonable. The stupid little sterilizing wipe dispensers they have in the fitness area are inadequate. They are wasteful and they don't work well at all. The correct solution to the problem is to have reusable hand towels and a spray bottle of cleaning fluid, the next best solution is to have paper towels and a spray bottle. The setting is mediocre, but not like exceptionally bad for a corporate gym. This isn't the worst gym I've been to, the facility is pretty decent and there is a lot of wall space and plenty available to train and improve, but they're definitely towards the bottom and it's mostly due to decisions made by management.
Overall, I do enjoy climbing at Momentum. The staff is normally very friendly and helpful. They open up on time in the mornings which is important to me. I feel that the Sandy gym is the most overlooked of the Momentum gym as far as route setting and maintenance is concerned (it's rare to have paper towels at the sink for some reason). I believe the prices have been raised twice in less than a year and that feels excessive to me (for what is provided).
I visit SLC once or twice a year to go rock climbing or snowboarding, and I have gone to the Momentum gyms a few times. This one in Millcreek seems to be the major hub - this one in Sandy is smaller, but I would give it 5 stars just for its crack training walls alone. The good: 1. The staff seem like standard gym employees. They're friendly and got us checked in quickly. 2. This place is clean. I didn't see any chalk dust floating around either which I appreciate. 3. The gym has varied climbs at every grade for bouldering, TR, and lead - it will be fun for total beginners or seasoned climbers. There is an entire corner of the gym dedicated to crack climbing, including cracks on lead. IMHO, if you are training for the outdoors, this is probably one of the best gyms in the country. They've even painted the walls to look like the red sandstone walls in Southern UT. 4. The training area is well equipped. Kilter board, hangboards, cardio and weights, etc.
I’m not thrilled with Momentum’s recent decision to limit memberships to a single location. I enrolled with the clear understanding that my membership provided access to all of your gyms. If you want to align pricing with usage, offering a discounted option for members who choose to use only one location makes sense. Increasing the cost for those of us who signed up expecting multi-location access, however, feels like a money grab and undermines the value we agreed to when enrolling.
I had an amazing experience at Momentum Rock Climbing thanks to Jackson! From the moment I walked in, Jackson was incredibly helpful and informative, guiding me through the equipment and safety procedures with a friendly smile. He took the time to answer all my questions and even gave me tips on improving my climbing technique. Jackson’s enthusiasm and patience made me feel completely at ease, and he went above and beyond to ensure I had a great experience. By the end of my session, I felt more confident and excited about climbing than ever. If you’re heading to Momentum Rock Climbing, I highly recommend asking for Jackson. His knowledge, encouragement, and genuine passion for climbing truly made my visit memorable. I can’t wait to come back for another climb – thanks to Jackson for making it such a fantastic time!
