EDIT -- This organization promised to refund the volunteer credit for the spring session 2022. None of the participants received a refund. I don’t really care about the refund. I would rather they donate our teams credit to charity. Main issue is saying one thing but not actually following thru. Please reach out to me if anything I said is untrue. This review is for the youth recreational kickers in the spring session. I think the main source of disappointment is that I had much higher expectations for Milwaukee Kickers versus a city run soccer league. The one selling feature that Kickers had was that they hired a coach that would help improve the kids soccer skills, in reality, the coach has no vested interest in the team and was the source of frustration. We are 5 weeks into the spring session, of the 5 opportunities for soccer practice, the coach has attended 2.5 practices (coach was 30 minutes late to one practice). Of the 2.5 practices, 1 was done in pouring rain – which probably should have been cancelled. Of the 4 games we have played, the coach has been late or shows up right before game time in 3 games. On top of this, the coach tells the parents to show up for practice 30-45 minutes before a game to practice, instead shows up late to the game himself. One positive is the MKE Kickers organization has great uniforms; they look fantastic. Unfortunately, we had played the first 3 games without the uniforms (instead played in scrimmage jerseys because our coach was unwilling to obtain the jerseys from the main MKE Kickers office). Fortunately the manager was able to provide them to our team before the 4th game. Another one of many positives in playing with the MKE kickers is having the opportunity to play games vs kids from surrounding cities. The organization provides a phone app that tells the team the location of each game. However, in the latest game, the app had a different location than the posted schedule on the league website. The coach/manager did not tell the team of the location conflict having the team show up to a completely different city than the actually location of the game. Fortunately a parent caught this oversight. Had it not been caught, it would have affected our team and opponents as the game would have been cancelled. Lastly, wish there were referees at the recreational level; there were different sets of rules depending on which coach decided to referee the game. I guess you get what you pay for. TL;DR: Main frustration is with the hired coach and what was expected in the league. Probably need to lower expectations. YMMV; our experience may have been completely different with another coach. However, there were still game scheduling and uniform issues beyond the coach.
