At 70 years old, semi-retired and bored, I was looking for a new, challenging experience. Even though I had never sailed before, I decided to take the plunge (not literally) and learn to sail. I was recommended to Captain Russ Beyer of the Miami Sailing School out of Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove, Florida. I found Captain Russ to be an exceptional instructor with tremendous patience, knowledge, experience, and a genuine passion for teaching sailing. He has made complex concepts easy to understand and creates a relaxed, non-intimidating learning environment. I never pictured myself at the helm of a 42' sailboat in gusty winds on the waters of beautiful Biscayne Bay but Captain Russ has given me the confidence to accomplish this feat. I have passed three levels of the ASA certifications and i am looking forward to continue to improve my skills under the Captain's tutelage. I highly recommend Miami Sailing School to anyone whether they're a beginner like myself or someone looking to improve their sailing skillset.

I attended the Miami Sailing School's ASA 101 course this past weekend and I highly recommend this school for anyone wanting to learn how to sail. Prior to the 3-day class, communications and directions were clear and easy - all my questions were answered. This school also provided me with the flexibility I needed and competitive pricing. The classes were held on a meticulously maintained, beautiful 42' sailboat in Coconut Grove. We received top-notch hands-on experience sailing Biscayne Bay. Captain Russ is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to detail. He is a gracious host (Leslie-sized Nespresso 🤭) and excellent instructor. Because the class size was small, he was able to tailor teaching to our needs while still fulfilling the requirements of the curriculum. I absolutely loved and appreciated that aspect.
