Mary Murray Culture Camp is a 40-acre camp on Sugar Island run by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, donated in 1975 by tribal elder Mary Murray on the condition it be used to preserve the tribe's traditional way of life. Programming centers on Anishinaabe life ways and land-based education — traditional life skills, drum teachings, sugarbush and seasonal ceremonies — and includes youth camps alongside adult retreats, fasting camps and women's ceremonies. Activities are organized through the tribe's Language and Culture program.
