Marine Cadets of Iowa (Military Cadets of Iowa) is a nonprofit youth cadet organization in Marshalltown for ages 12 to 18, focused on discipline, time management, leadership, and college and career readiness. Cadets meet monthly through the year, and new cadets complete a required two-week residential summer boot camp at Camp Dodge in Des Moines. Youth may join for the full year or attend the summer boot camp on its own.

Powered by GoogleAs a teenager, I participated in the Marine Cadets of Iowa program because I was interested in joining the Military, and wanted a structured program that would teach leadership and best prepare me for the trials ahead. From the very first day, the training felt both challenging and well organized, which instilled confidence regarding the quality of preparation the program provided. Every instructor on staff was professional and truly knew how to build skills providing realistic expectations and structure. I especially appreciated how the rigorous training was balanced with plenty of support, leaving me feeling prepared and proud. I wholeheartedly recommend the cadet program for teens who want a solid nonprofit experience.
I originally joined this program in middle school and continued on until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps my senior year of HS. This program exposes you to so many aspects of the military such as knowledge, lifestyle, training, etc and will push you ahead of your peers if you do enlist or commission. Whether you plan on joining the military or not the leadership, character development and discipline the program instills will help you be successful in whatever you do. The program provides ample opportunities to serve in and around your community. Marine Cadets Iowa helped me achieve meritorious promotions within the Marine Corps and I would not be as good of a SGT in the infantry had I not joined the program. My Son, Olin, is a Sergeant in the Marine Cadet Program. He has been in the program for around two years now. He has grown so much in his leadership abilities and self-confidence. This program offers so many great experiences that build leaders and prepare teens for life after school, whether or not they pursue the military. One of the best things I have seen while helping with the program is how the cadets discover they are capable of far more than they thought. The program pushes the cadets to their full potential, pushing them out of their comfort zone, to help them grow in those areas where they may struggle. Marine Cadets of Iowa is an amazing program that I would recommend to any teen who is looking for a challenge, an authentic military experience, or a way to build leadership skills. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Goslinga for their time and dedication to run this program. You have truly changed the lives of every cadet who has been in this program.
My son Olin, 16, is a Sergeant in the Marine Cadets of Iowa Program. He has been in the program for nearly 2 years now and absolutely loves it. He joined to gain leadership experience to fulfill his dream of becoming a marine officer. This is an amazing program and has done so much for him. It is a great way to build confidence and leadership skills, through the many different trainings they hold. This is an amazing program I would definitely recommend it for any teen. Here are photos to show the things the cadets do.
Marine Cadets of Iowa has had an incredible impact on our son. Jace is 14, and since joining the program we’ve seen so much growth in his confidence, motivation, and discipline. The leadership skills he’s learning and the structure of the cadet program have really helped him thrive, both personally and academically. This is a rigorous program that pushes kids in a positive way and prepares them for future goals and careers while teaching accountability and respect. We are truly grateful for the mentors and leaders who invest their time into these cadets. I would highly recommend Marine Cadets of Iowa to any family looking for a strong leadership-based program for their child.
