Powered by GoogleMany years ago I went to Camp Lone Star and it is now Luther Hill. It was an amazing experience for a 12 year old girl who had just become a Christian. Thank you.
The new retreat center is wonderful. The bedroom lamp even has a built in cell phone charging station. The bathroom mirrors have make up lighting. The bedroom even has a comfy chair. The windows look out on beautiful scenery. The food was great. It is just a really special place.
The camp was a place of discovery and new experiences for everyone involved. Campers had the opportunity to learn valuable skills and build lasting friendships. The natural surroundings provided a beautiful and inspiring backdrop for all the activities. It was a truly memorable time filled with laughter and shared adventures. We hope everyone took away wonderful memories from their time at the camp.
This is the first review I have written in my life. I am sad and disgusted. I feel it is important to share my family's experience so others can make an informed decision about where they send their child to camp. My son attended this camp last week. It was his first time at a sleep away camp. We are familiar with this camp as we have attended a few family camp sessions here. Our church also has a relationship with this camp. That is why we trusted them with our child. My child was bullied the entire time he was at camp. He was assaulted twice during the week by two different children. Another boy from his cabin was removed from the cabin on DAY 2 because he was being harassed. We were NEVER notified. My son was sent to the nurse as a result of the second assault and again, we were NEVER notified. He told a counselor that he did not feel safe and nothing was done. He was in a cabin with 12 boys who were much older than him. They had one counselor who could not possibly watch over them at every moment. Their lack of staffing is a major problem. His cabin was out of control. The parents of the children who bullied my child and assaulted my child were notified but we were not. They finally sent one of the boys home early. My son wrote a letter to us explaining all of this and we never received the letter. They failed to protect my son. He felt trapped and unsafe. We still have no answers as to why we were not notified. They claim this will be the best week of your child's year. It was not. Please think twice before you send your children here.
This place is amazing. Great for families, kids, church groups, family reunions, summer camps, any kind of group gathering you can think of. Hospitality is their priority, and it shows in everything they do.
