Lake Owego Camp for Boys
Private
Lake Owego Camp is a boys' overnight summer camp on a private lake in the Pocono Mountains near Greeley, one of the oldest continuously family-owned boys' camps in the U.S. (opened 1961 by the Black family). Campers live in lakeside cabins and choose from a wide range of instructional activities spanning team and individual sports, waterfront and aquatics (sailing, water-skiing), horseback riding, arts and theater, technology, and adventure trips.

Powered by GoogleMy son has been attending Owego since 2021 and at the end of each summer returns home saying it was the "best summer yet!" They do a great job at letting the boys be independent while encouraging them to try new things. The staff is warm, fun, and attentive to the kids and responsive to the parents. The no electronics rule has been a blessing all these years. As the boys get older and age into the older side of the camp they get more independence, get to stay up later, get later night activities, more trips, and a favorite of my son - late night snack. My son also loves the inter camp games with Pine Forrest and neighboring camps, as well as seeing his cousins there. My kid is a sporty, very competitive kid and Owego offers a ton of options for that but I know there are plenty of non-sports activities. His favorite downtime activity there is fishing each day. The out-of-camp trips are always fun and well-run and he looks forward each summer to the yearly camp traditions. This will be his last summer as a camper (his tents year) and he's excited about that. Having the lake right outside their bunk to swim, paddle board, or wrestle on the wibbit is the best. He met his best friends his first summer at Owego and they've been back each summer. I always love hearing stories throughout the school year of stuff that happened at camp. Confirms we made the right decision years ago!
Lake Owego is truly one of a kind-you can’t find another camp like it! Our son has spent three full-session summers at LOC, and our daughter attends their sister camp, Timber Tops. Both kids love it and look forward to every summer. What makes LOC so special is its incredible staff and leadership. Jeff (Freedo) and Kyle work closely with the counselors every day to make sure camp runs smoothly and that every camper feels supported and cared for. The counselors are mature, attentive, and genuinely invested in the kids. There is a rare, down-to-earth culture at LOC built on brotherhood, respect, and kindness. Our son comes home each summer happier, more confident, and proud to be part of something truly special. We are so grateful for this exceptional camp and the people who make it what it is.
Lake Owego is a truly special camp. Our son will be starting his 6th year at Owego next summer and loves camp. There is so much love and warmth (particularly for an all-boys camp), and every kid is valued. The directors and staff know all of the kids and families by name. As our son has grown up at camp, he has been able to lean into his love of sports, try many new things, and has formed incredible bonds with his camp friends that extend beyond the summer. We are so grateful for Owego and our daughter loves Timber Tops too (the sister camp)! Great for a brother-sister experience.
Lake Owego Camp for Boys has been an incredible experience for our family. My son attended for five years, always as a full-session camper, and truly loved every minute of it. The growth we watched in him over that time—becoming more confident, independent, and responsible—has been remarkable. The friendships he made and the memories he created at Lake Owego are the kind that will last a lifetime. The staff creates an environment where boys can be themselves, try new things, and feel supported every step of the way. We are so grateful for everything this camp has given him. Highly recommend!
How do I put into words the pure love that I have for Lake Owego Camp as a mother?! It’s just impossible!!!!!! I have two sons who first went to Owego Summer of 2024 for the full 7 weeks. They were 9 (turning 10, rising 4th grader) and 7 (rising 2nd grader) at the time. My expectations were simple - just to have fun and be independent without me and my husband. Naturally that summer far exceeded my expectations!!! Every single day of that summer was a gift - I kept asking myself “is this really real? It can’t possibly be THIS amazing?!?” They came home after that first summer - not homesick….no….they were CAMPSICK!!!! They didn’t want to be home! They didn’t miss Mom/Dad or screens…..they just wanted to be back at camp!!! Directors Kyle Silver and Jeff Freedman (Freedo) are second to none - a true team, perfectly complimenting each other and setting the tone for the camp. What sets LOC apart from every other camp - it’s special sauce - is its CULTURE. All of the boys there love different things - some love tennis, others love swimming, some love Magic the Gathering, others love basketball, some love the Eagles (no one loves the Cowboys), others love the Mets (Go Phillies!!), some love kayaking on the pond, others love inspection (hahah not!!! Just kidding!) - point is, these boys aren’t all the same. They have varying interests and yet they have one thing in common. They all love LOC. The amount of camp pride is extraordinary. They bleed blue (camp colors)! I see it in every single picture, I read it in letters sent back home from them, I hear it on their phone calls - they are HAPPIEST and their BEST SELVES at Owego!!! Nothing makes me happier than that! I can’t highly recommend Lake Owego Camp enough - it makes me wish I could go to camp there too!!! Thank you LOC for creating the environment where my boys can feel more at home and more themselves than anywhere else!!!! Forever grateful to have found this special place for my children!!!!!
