I have a problem. I hope admitting it in a public forum will help me recognize the truth. I am addicted to cardio tennis. There, I said it. They say the first step to recovery is admitting a problem. (don't ask me how I know that) I'm old, scrawny, with knee problems, achy right hip, lumbago and bad shoulders. The rotator cuff surgery I had 3 years ago in my right shoulder means that the pain I have in my shoulder is from arthritis. I'm a mess. And it doesn't help that everyone I play with is so friendly and respectful to me. They give me such joy when they celebrate getting the ball past a broken down old man. Yes, I know they are faking it, but I am grateful for them to be so thoughtful. So, even when I lose, I feel like I'm winning. And, AND, they give me cupcakes on my birthday. I've been warned about getting involved in a community that is supporting my habit. (again... don't ask how I know that). Well, I know I must be strong.... But, it's 10:15 and I have my gear on..... I'll stop next week. Really. Next week.
I moved to the area for work from Texas 4 years ago, and I was looking for opportunities to play tennis (since I've been playing on/off for 20 years). I've been playing at the Tennis Center for over 2 years, and I've had a great experience. Since bringing on Avery as an instructor, I've seen a lot more development of the adult programming, especially in the evenings (I work full time during the day time and having instruction in the evening has been great). This includes having an advanced instruction class from 7-8:30 on Wednesdays, Tennis on Tap during Thursday afternoons which allows me to refine some of the weaker areas of my game, and then having match play on Sunday evenings has allowed me to enjoy playing some competitive tennis. Avery and Danylo are a dynamic duo with these adult evening play opportunities. I've definitely seen improvements in my play, and being a member of the Tennis Center has helped me find my community. Coming to play at the Tennis Center is what I look forward to every week!
Nice facility. Great accommodations and viewing area, for most courts. Attended for a tournament and would come back again for more events.
Fabulous no-frills tennis facility. Lighting is about the best I've seen for an indoor facility. There are 8 courts. The is a small proshop available with rackets, bags and stringing services. The locker rooms are clean. You do need to be a YMCA member to use the courts, otherwise you need to pay a $10 guest fee (which can be steep given you also have to separately pay for court time). There is courttime discount if you play during off peak hours.
