The J.M. McDonald Sports Complex is a nonprofit sport and recreation facility at 4292 Fairgrounds Drive in Cortland, founded in 2004, and it runs a licensed childcare summer camp for ages 4-12 (entering K-6) across eight weeks from June 29 to August 21. Camp runs Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and mixes scavenger hunts, fitness challenges, team sports, arts and crafts, outdoor play and team-building, with a healthy snack and a hot lunch provided. Each week campers walk to Smith School Playground next door and Suggett Park a mile away, with a permission form required. Rates are $220 per week or $60 per day, $180 per week for siblings and $150 per week part-time (2-3 days); families receiving county assistance are exempt from the weekly deposit, campers must be potty trained, and registration is online with payment by phone.

★★★★EI visited midweek to pick up bare root saplings supplied by the local Soil and Water Conservation District folks, an annual event in late April. Plenty of space here and parking for all sorts of activities. Easy access.
★★★Heidi E.The skate rink is nice and ice is in good condition. We traveled a bit to go to this rink because my 3 year old daughter likes the skate trainers. However, people do not take turns very well with the skate trainers. Adults were using them when plenty of kids were on the ice. Parents would keep unused trainers in the seating area with them saying it was for their kid who would “be right back” and not pass them along to another kid on the ice. It didn’t feel like a welcoming environment. My kid wanted to leave early. It was $30 for two adults and a kid for less than 2 hours of ice time. This rink is not high on our list of places to go back to.
