Powered by GoogleMany years have passed since my time at Jack Mountain, yet not a week goes by that I don’t reflect on the experiences there. I was part of one of the school’s earlier training groups. During that period of my life, I explored many programs across the country, from the Southwest and Deep South to the Northwest, in pursuit of wilderness skills. Without hesitation, I recommend Jack Mountain Bushcraft as the best. The instructor is among the most knowledgeable I have ever encountered, and his teaching style is unmatched. My experience there has had a lasting impact, and I cannot recommend the school highly enough.
The Jack Mountain Bushcraft semester immerses you in wilderness living in a way that makes it impossible not to improve your understanding of self-sufficiency and the ecology of Maine's North woods. Tim is exceptionally good at showing how simple the skills can be. And he can teach a wide variety of skill levels and makes learning accessible to all people. I have always loved the outdoors, but want to understand how to live outdoors, not just travel through it. This course teaches you the basic skills of outdoor living and has you gain experience by immersing you in them. After which, you'll have a broad knowledge of primitive skills and outdoor life, and you'll only need to fill in the gaps of knowledge. There are few bushcraft opportunities as enjoyable and challenging.
I had an incredible experience on the Summer Semester program. The class covered a mix of traditional skills, wilderness living skills, survival, canoeing (including poling instruction), group management, plant ID, weather journaling and predictions, tracking, and so much more. I came away with a greater understanding of and confidence in the woods. Tim and his instructors were a phenomenal source of knowledge, guidance, motivation, and when needed, humor. I had an amazing time and learned a ton. I would highly recommend this school for anyone who has the time, resources, and motivation. And thanks once again to Tim for this amazing experience.
Overall A+ experience. Tim is a superb teacher, guide, comedian and now friend. The guides were top notch. extremely helpful and in tune with the students. You will never forget the experience you will have with Jack Mtn.
If you love the outdoors, and want to learn how to live with nature, Jack Mountain Bushcraft (in my opinion) is the "ONLY" choice. I attended the 9 week Fall Semester Immersion Course. Couldn't be happier. The knowledge and delivery of these ways, by Tim and his crew was simply amazing. Practical and applicable ways in which to utilize all the resources of the land in a good way. It was so much more than I expected. I'm looking forward to continuing my education and experience with JMB's Boreal Snowshoe Expedition and the 30 Day Canoe Expedition, expanding my knowledge and learning to live in our natural world.
