Hillside Connection is a Colorado Springs nonprofit, founded in 2017 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2019, that uses basketball to create pathways to opportunity for kids in Southern Colorado Springs and serves over 750 youth a year. Programming is year-round rather than a single summer camp: sports-development basketball clinics at the Hillside Community Center and other southeast Colorado Springs sites, competitive play including 3-on-3 summer tournaments and a Hoopster League, and an annual summer basketball camp. Enrichment activities for grades 1-8 add trips to the Olympic Training Center, the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and Denver Broncos Junior Training Camp. Sponsorships, community partners and City of Colorado Springs support keep programs accessible.

★Symone ZanderMy daughter had a poor experience with this program not addressing her asthma issues, leaving her on the sidelines crying. When I sent them an email, I received no response. At first I stayed quiet because of the organization’s reputation, but this type of negligence could have had serious repercussions and the more I talk to other parents about it the more I hear unacceptable stories about this organization. The following is the email I sent on July 17,2025: To Whom it May Concern, [REDACTED] will not be returning to Biddy Academy sessions. On Tuesday there was an incident where she was having trouble breathing and was left on the sidelines crying. There were 3 adults on the court and none took the time to contact me at any point. My daughter was left ignored and crying in the floor and said that she told an adult she was having trouble breathing. I was in the lobby with her inhaler in hand, so it is extremely disappointing that no attempt at contact was made. This was my daughter’s first introduction to a sport after finally getting to a good point with her asthma and I fear that this incident may have tainted that. She was so excited to participate and wear her new basketball shoes. While I understand and applaud the community work this program has done, the lack of care for my child has put the most sour taste for Hillside Connection in my mouth for its negligence with my child. I hope the future children that approach your program with excitement are not faced with the same level of negligence, disappointment and apathy that [redacted] was. Sincerely,
