Powered by GoogleOur kids absolutely love High Meadows Camp and the variety of activities offered, traditions created, and memories made! This is our daughter's 3rd year going and she asked specifically to attend again! She is a Super Senior (rising 3rd grader, 8 years old) this year and she is extra excited to be able to do archery! She also told us about the bird house she is making in woodworking. This is our son's first year going (rising 1st grader and a Junior). He made friends, loved dodge ball, swimming, and playing soccer. So happy that a camp like this exists and continues to thrive in today's world! From year's past, my daughter has told my son and all about slip n slide days, pony rides, the sheep and chickens, theme days, camp wide cookouts (they offer kosher, vegan/vegetarian, and meat options for all campers) and playing gaga ball! The director is super communicative; directions and instructions are laid out well and the staff has such high energy! I love their positive attitudes and that each week of camp has a different value theme, like week 1 for my kiddos is communication. Also, since camp is primarily outside the entire time, in year's past, we (parents) were given extra instructions for helping keep our kiddos cool in the heat and water retention to help with dehydration. I probably received those instructions when my daughter was a rising kindergartener attending camp.
High Meadows Day Camp is an amazing camp for kids. They engage with the children and teach them new skills. If you want your children to be in a fun environment with a lot of outdoor time then this is the place.
The only words I have for this place is disappointing. First, the kids are outside the entire time. It is 90+ degrees in GA, and the kids are outside majority, if not all of the time. They do not get to swim all the time though. On some days, my son didn't swim at all. Their website states that they teach kids to swim - that is not the case. My son would come home and say they never taught him to swim and he mostly used a flotation device. They also do not have snack time. When asked why kids are not provided snack time, the director stated that "they don't have time during the day". Furthermore, my son would hold going to the bathroom because he said the bathrooms are not cleaned and are very dirty. I don't believe he ever had a pony ride as they advertise on their website. But the worst part of this camp is they don't know how to handle spirited boys. They started complaining about my son in week 2. He has been in several day cares and YMCA camp and has not had problems. However, he started to have problems in week 2 at this camp. They don't know how to handle and how to supervise high energy boys. My son was not the only one "in trouble". If you have a child that needs a bit more supervision or understanding counselors, look somewhere else. This place was a huge disappointment.
My daughter came home last Friday and said it was the best day she'd ever had! High Meadows creates wonderful experiences for kids and I highly recommend it.
Both of my kids had an incredible time and have already asked to return! The counselors were AMAZING. Well-run, extremely organized, and a beautiful outdoor setting. We will be back next summer!
