We (me and my husband, were invited on a boat ride to celebrate our close friend birthday and retirement. He chose a sailboat ride. I was excited yet terrified, but the overall experience was good. I will get to the bad before the good. The boat up top was clean, however upon going down to the lower deck it was nasty. I think it could definitely use a good steam clean on the bedding or perhaps new upholstery. Lots of stains. In short, the entire lower deck looked extremely old and unkept. Then close to the end of the trip a water bug or cockroach came crawling right beside me which literally made me almost jump into our friends lap across the boat and step on her foot…I’m sure that did not make her feel good. Jay was our captain, his son Beau accompanied him, as did Chloe (their puppy or dog) which was totally unexpected as I am terrified of animals. Other than lots of pacing and a big step on my brand-new jeans she was ok. Jay was an awesome captain as our ride was very smooth and slow offering us an awesome time to just enjoy the relaxing moment. Beau was incredible. I was in awe at how good he was at manipulating the sail throughout the trip and especially at such a young age. In fact, he did so much work I tipped the young man $20 upon leaving the boat. Hope he was able to purchase something nice with it. The purpose of this ride was to take in a beautiful sunset and that we did, the pictures will not do it justice. So, in short would I ever do this again, yes probably so, but with a newer boat, and no pets or pests.

We had a wonderful sail with Jay from Hatteras sailing organization today. We went out on the sound and sailed for a few hours. The wind was wonderful and Jay and Meg were able to tailor the experience to fit our family’s needs. Highly recommend!

I had an incredible experience renting a Hobie 16 from this marina. Meg was friendly and accommodating when coordinating the rental and adaptable to changes in our schedule and when weather conditions weren't ideal. They have a wide selection of boats to choose from for rent or charter; we went with the Hobie. The boat was already set up and ready to go when we arrived at the marina. Jay and his son gave us valuable tips on navigating their marina and even assisted us when we got stuck in some shallow mud. I'll definitely come back and rent from them again when I'm in southern OBX. If you have sailing experience and want to hit the water, this is the place to go!
