Grind House Sports
Private
Grind House Sports is a youth and teen athletic-performance training facility at 114 Regency Dr in Wylie, founded in 2019 by former NFL player Terrell Washington. Training targets speed, strength, agility, coordination and confidence with age-appropriate progressions, and is sold as group sessions, one-on-one coaching and wrestling academies. The gym is open Monday-Thursday 4-9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., so the offering is after-school and weekend training rather than a summer camp.

Powered by GoogleWhen my husband and I were searching for a gym for our son, we weren’t just looking for a place to improve his athletic ability, we were looking for someone who would follow our ethics and help shape him into the young man we hope he becomes. We wanted a coach who would not only build on his athletic skills, but also instill character, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Coach Washington, who we call Coach T, has been exactly that and more. My son truly admires him and it’s easy to see why. Coach T is tough, yet generally caring and kind. He holds his athletes to high standards, but always supports and encourages them; especially in moments when they feel discouraged or defeated. He has even called my son personally after a bad game to give insights on his experience and how tough times shape us into who we become and to remember that, even in defeat, he is growing as an athlete. Going to Grind House is my son’s home away from home. He loves being there and would go every day if he could. From Coach T to the friends he has made (younger and older) the past year and a half has been what we asked for and more. Not only is Coach T a positive influence, the athletes feed off his vibe and lift each other up. To see athletes encouraging each other and helping/encouraging each other to push through the pain gives me chills and is something to see. Coach T is not only building athletes, he is building young men and young women to become better versions of themselves. Coach T has truly been a blessing in our lives. I’m so grateful for the positive influence he has had on my son, and I cannot imagine being anywhere else.
My 13 year old son has been training with Grind House for almost a year. It has been an amazing experience. In that time we have seen a noticeable improvement in our son’s skills, speed, technique, and agility. His athletic development in the gym has translated directly to the soccer field. Coach Washington is such a positive influence and is personally invested in the success of these kids.
I cannot say enough good things about Coach Terrel Washington and the entire team at Grind House Sports! My 12-year-old son has been training with Coach Washington for the past two years, and the experience has been transformative for his lacrosse career and overall athletic development. Coach Washington has an exceptional ability to develop both talent and leadership in young athletes. Over these two years, we've witnessed tremendous growth in my son's speed, agility, and strength. The improvements aren't just physical—Coach Washington has helped build his confidence and work ethic in ways that extend beyond the field. What sets Coach and Grind House apart is their genuine investment in each athlete's success. They've become a wonderful and integral part of my son's journey, providing expert guidance, encouragement, and a supportive training environment that pushes him to reach his full potential. Coach Washington goes the extra mile for his athletes, even showing up at my son's lacrosse games on his own time to support my son and learn more about the sport of lacrosse to better personalize his workouts. I highly recommend Coach Washington and Grind House Sports to any parent looking for quality athletic training -- whatever the sport, be it Football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball or even Lacrosse. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to take their game to the next level, you'll be in excellent hands with this team.
My daughter has only been training at Grind House Sports for a short time, but the impact has already been incredible. Her athletic abilities and mental toughness have grown noticeably. Coach truly cares about these kids and is dedicated to helping them reach their full potential—you can see it in every single workout session. Highly recommend!
As a parent who’s been active in youth sports for several years, I’ve learned how important it is to make sure training programs and gyms have all of their paperwork in order — things like current liability insurance, certified coaches, and a valid Certificate of Occupancy from the city. These aren’t just technicalities — they help protect kids, coaches, and families in case of an injury or emergency. Unfortunately, my experience with Grind House Sports in Wylie, TX, under owner Terrell Washington, has been concerning. The wrestling program’s charter with liability insurance reportedly lapsed on 8/31. This is important because the charter provided secondary insurance, which I have relied on in the past when my child suffered an injury. Coaches are not at fault — we love them and appreciate their dedication — but the program’s operation and administration under the owner has been problematic. Reports indicate that coaches are not being paid as agreed, and the gym appears to lack a valid Certificate of Occupancy or proper business registration. The organization has claimed nonprofit and LLC status, but I could not find evidence to support this or confirm their ability to legally operate in Texas. The gym is reportedly operating on school property without permission and running a 24-hour gym program for youth without clear safeguards, which raises safety concerns. Communication has also been a major issue — emails and calls to cancel memberships after the wrestling program was abruptly closed have gone unanswered. Multiple parents have raised similar concerns, and this has disrupted our children’s training schedules just as the season is starting, causing significant inconvenience. I strongly urge parents and athletes to ask for documentation of insurance, licensing, certifications, and proper registration before signing waivers or paying for programs. Transparency is essential, and organizations that appear to prioritize profit over the safety and well-being of children should be approached with caution.
