Grand Valley Recreation Center
Private
The Grand Valley Recreation Center is a 53,000-square-foot public facility in Battlement Mesa operated by the Parachute/Battlement Mesa Parks & Recreation District, with an indoor junior-Olympic pool, hot tub, dry sauna and a gymnasium used for basketball, volleyball and pickleball. For summer it partners with Garfield County School District 16 on Cardinal Camp, a six-week program of one-week themed sessions covering arts and crafts, sports and outdoor education. Cardinal Camp serves students entering grades 1-6, runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and costs $50 per week per child with transportation and lunch provided.

Powered by GoogleIt was nice and clean enough, but there was no way to get a stroller down below from the inside. There is a way outside, but no signs or directions on how to get there. I had to call a friend to help me down the stairs with the stroller. When leaving I tried the outside way but again there was no signs on how to get back up to parking. I had to walk all the way around the building with a 1 year old in the rain to get to my car. I really hope I dont have to go back there again.
I’m sure that it’s a great rec center. I called just to find out if I could walk the track. You have to pay for a $30 a month membership JUST to walk the track. I’m 73, a widow, on a set income. Every dollar counts. This is the first place I have ever been that charges just to walk the track. Too bad. Maybe they should reconsider.
Private swim lessons worked out well. I had two of my boys take them. The private boxing classes are great. Bobby is a great guy. Unfortunately the weight room was filled with men who were so doused with man perfume that I couldn’t breathe and almost had an asthma attack. The perfume is so strong that it coats the mouth and nose as if you ate it. Even putting tissue over my nose and mouth didn’t help. One guy was dropping weights on the machines from the top as if he was trying to break it. It was so difficult to get in a work out with stuff being dropped and the axe body spray in my mouth. Since they don’t let you try it out I was forced to buy a month. I went once and decided the weight room was too stinky with man perfume. I also had to deal with a couple of teenage girls staring and mocking me. One hour was all I could do. I’ll keep paying for the private lessons for my kids but the weight room isn’t anything worth paying for. Since the private lessons aren’t included in the membership we can still do those classes.
Nice place. Big weight room(s), pool, hot tub, basketball court, pickle ball. Friendly staff and fair prices for monthly usage. Highly recommend. Weekend hours eh, but weekday 5A to 9P!
I love our rec center. The kids love it here too. A membership pass is so cheap. So totally worth it.
