I have never posted a negative review, but I feel the need to mention our experience with this camp in the hopes that perhaps other parents who also have high standards for the people they entrust their children to might be duly warned. Sadly, our daughter had a negative experience at Grace. The camp was poorly run, highly disorganized, and the bathrooms/facilities were unclean. The counselors used/abused a disciplinary system called "benching." We sent our daughter along with a friend to this camp because we trusted a homeschooling organization's tacit endorsement. We did not know any of this until we picked her up at the end of camp because her counselor would not allow her to contact us (her parents), even though our daughter asked her counselor every day if she could call us. She was not personally or physically maltreated, but overall her time was unhappy enough that the first thing she said when I picked her up was, "Please don't ever send me to that camp again!" This occurred summer of 2024. Perhaps they're working on cleaning up their facilities and their program for the upcoming season. But there are many good camps in Virginia--our kids all had a great time at WCRC the year before…send your kids there!

Truly not sure how this place has so many good reviews but that is what made me feel comfortable sending our kids here for a week and I feel I need to share our experience. I first heard about this camp from HEAV magazine and decided to send our kids for their first overnight camp experience in July. I saw several pictures and videos of the camp on their Instagram and it was a completely different feel when we pulled into the camp property. We drove 2 1/2 hours to get there so at that point we felt committed. We walked each of our kids to their cabin (were not introduced to their counselors ever). The trash cans on the balconies were all overflowing to the point that trash was piled up around them. The inside of the cabins was okay, our daughter was in one that had a bathroom and shower but our son had to use the bath house which was absolutely disgusting. My husband and dad both could not believe the condition of that building. We decided to hope for the best and let them stay for their week. Based on the past summers Facebook posts I was counting on seeing pictures of our kids throughout the week but they posted nothing. The day we picked up we were looking forward to their last day ceremony and were hoping to finally see some pictures of what they did all week but that didn't happen. They introduced each counselor and then the counselors sang a song and that was about it. We were then supposed to check our kids out which was completely unorganized. On our drive home we began to feel awful for leaving our kids there (and our friends that had their kids there heard similar stories on their drive back). To try to sum it up, the counselors seemed like they were awful to them, activities that were shown on their website and presentation boards were not even offered, the property was gross and we have not one picture to show their time there. We bought them each a $50 camera because it was suggested on the camp packing list and neither of their counselors let them use them. Our friend's daughter had her watch taken away because "it was an electronic" and it literally just told the time and did nothing else. On the drive home they said things like "please never send us to camp again". This is not how it should be. My husband grew up going to church camps and was so excited for our kids to make memories like he had. Hopefully my kids will give us a chance to make it right next summer with a much better camp.

Great place to learn about our Savior. The camp will bend over backwards to have your child attend. Many of the counselors were once campers.
