The Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a nonprofit sea turtle hospital and education center on Jekyll Island, runs week-long summer day camps for rising 1st-7th graders. Days focus on turtle biology, conservation, and coastal ecology, with field-based adventures exploring Jekyll's beaches and marshes and an eco-trawl. The Ocean Explorers session (ages 6-9) runs Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at $280/week, including lunch, a t-shirt, and a water-park visit.

What We Liked: • A wealth of information about sea turtle conservation, rehabilitation, and the challenges these animals face in the wild. • The opportunity to see a variety of sea turtles being rehabilitated and learn about their individual stories. • Well-designed exhibits that help visitors understand the important work being done at the center. • During our visit, we were able to watch a surgery being performed on one of the turtles. That experience alone made the visit worthwhile and provided a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the rehabilitation process. While we enjoyed our visit, it felt more like a place to experience once rather than a destination we would visit repeatedly. Would We Return? Probably not, but we're very glad we visited. The chance to see the rehabilitation work firsthand and watch a live surgery made for a memorable and worthwhile experience.

This is a great place to receive an excellent education on sea turtles and turtles in general. The hospital is helping to save and care for so many injured turtles. It's a one of a kind experience to see these beautiful graceful creatures up close. The center doesn't receive any government funding. So visiting the center helps to fund the hospital. It's money well spent. I highly recommend visiting and donating.

They were busy working on a sea turtle and a small alligator both had been hit by cars. It was a fantastic tour so interesting. I can’t recommend this tour enough, worth every penny.
