The Friendship House Community Center in Bakersfield runs a free New Adventure summer day program for children and teens ages 6–18 from low-income families, operated by the nonprofit Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK). Days run Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, and include sports, arts and crafts, STEM and educational enrichment, and field trips, with free breakfast and lunch provided. Registration is in person at 2424 Cottonwood Road.

★★★★★Robert Elliott JrAs a kid in pre-school and 1st grade at Casa Loma Elementary, I used to come here daily after school back in the 90s. There wasn't much around, but I remember the pool and outdoor basketball courts. Further than that was a huge field but the grass always needed cut. Its great to see that this place is still standing. I don't remember much of the people from there, but the name itself is always remembered. I moved out of Bakersfield a long time ago, but when I come to visit family, I try to pass by and revisit some of those memories from my childhood. I was a foster child at that time as well. RIP Lee Ward. (foster mother), she brought me here.
