I attended Discovery Camp 27 years ago and it was life changing and a wonderful experience. I also interned there a few summers and it was a wonderful experience to be a part of God’s work along with so many friendships and wonderful memories.
As someone who went to DC back in the early days of it operating, at least 1997 though I think through the church I was at back then we went 2-3 times, there's only 4 things I remember from this place: a horse named Booger, having to pay for the horseback riding and the go-carts, and at least 2 visits with bedbugs issues. I don't remember much else as that was nearly 30 years ago, but these days I'd say this place is more like a cult you visit. Based on some of the reviews I've read, it looks like they never really resolved the bedbug issues, they still charge for the only fun activities on the property, and I wouldn't be surprised if the leader here still shuts down the waterslide if he doesn't get enough attention. Save your money and the drive to reach this place and either spend that time doing local volunteer work or some local VBS.
The good burgers and curly fries don't make up for the bedbugs and thieves. You can do better. Sell one of those cars pastor Tommy doesn't drive and put some money back into your ministry.
I had went years ago and loved it... Had an accident in 2015 that wiped most of my memory and looked at 1 picture and suddenly remembered it all... It was one of the best experiences of my life and will always be... Im even trying to get my pastor to let me chaperone the next trip.
