Diabetes Youth Services (DYS) is a Toledo nonprofit that has supported young people living with type 1 diabetes since 1984 across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. It runs four summer camp sessions for participants roughly ages 5-22, including a first resident-camp experience ('Middle Shots') for ages 10-13 and a young-adult weekend. Camps combine typical activities with diabetes education and medically supervised care.

My son just got back from Middle Shots Camp. Where he gets to be around other kids his age with diabetes and celiac. He tried new activities and new foods that he probably wouldn’t have. I’m so thankful for DYS for offering kids to go to camp and not feel like an outsider.

Great organization and helpful for parents and kids. If you have a child with Type 1 diabetes, get in connect with them immediately; great events for kids and parents alike. Even have leadership activities for older kids.
