Parenting over me while I was trying to parent. We couldn’t stay for more than an hour because the pool was so cold. Bring back the old Lloyd Pool. This one was terrible.

★Molly FahrlanderToday, I came out to support our hometown hero, Lilly King, for the watch party. This was advertised on the news as being free and open to the public. I enjoyed swimming and was really looking forward to watching Lilly’s event! Then, the director of the aquatic center approached me and told me the pool was only open to children that participated in a particular program. She said that parents were concerned because they saw an adult in the pool. I was told I had to leave the pool and watch from the bleachers upstairs. It costs nothing to be kind, and she could have chosen to be nice about it. The director is the face of the organization. I understand she may have not had power over the decision, but you should always leave interactions making people feel cared about, valued. I felt so humiliated, I just left and didn’t get to watch the event. It’s very frustrating and disappointing, because the news never specified that the pool wasn’t open to the public during this time! The last watch party in 2020 was open to EVERYONE, and that’s what made is so special! It felt like an event to build community and bring people together. I left feeling very let down. I’m definitely not returning to swim.
