Crow Canyon Archaeological Center near Cortez runs residential summer archaeology camps for students ages 12-18 who join its research team studying the ancestral Pueblo people of the Mesa Verde region. Middle school campers learn excavation and lab technique, dig at a real site occupied nearly a thousand years ago, and wash, catalog and analyze artifacts while studying American Indian cultures past and present. The High School Field School works alongside archaeologists on the Northern Chaco Outliers Project and can earn academic credit. Students stay in cabins on site, all camps include a field trip to Mesa Verde National Park, and the high school program adds weekend hiking and rafting.

Came here when I was a little girl about 25 years ago for a class camping trip. This trip has always sat with me and will forever hold a special place in my heart. I'd love to bring my family here sometime.

I was there for a conference and their 40th anniversary celebration. If you have any interest in archeology and how Crow Canyon is working with indigenous natives to respectfully do archaelogy. We had a great time seeing the annular eclipse too. I highly recommend .

I found it very interesting, although the Center was not open to the public at the time I went, I was told that I could walk the trails.

I went several years ago for a week-long class trip. It was fun and interesting, we learned so much in such a short span of time. The program was well worth the flight from SC to CO!
