Cottonwood Gulch Expeditions is a nonprofit overnight/expedition summer camp whose 'Gulch' base is near Thoreau in northwestern New Mexico, leading backpacking and hiking treks across the American Southwest for youth roughly ages 8 to 18. Programs combine wilderness travel with hands-on natural science, cultural exploration, and place-based education, with age-tiered treks of increasing length and challenge. (Same operator as the Albuquerque office listing.)

Powered by GoogleGreat organization! Our family has been sending kids to the Gulch ever since my Mom went on the first girls trek in 1934!
Honestly one of the best experiences of my life, the adventures are fun, the kids are great, food is amazing, welcoming staff, welcoming space, it is 1000% better than any normal summer camp inside NM. (Oh and it’s LGBTQ+ friendly 🏳️🌈, and accepting of all religions!) And transportation to to the gulch is easy and covered too, last time I went we met at the sunport so very convenient for the people in the ABQ area! The cabins are separated and the staff make you feel safe and accepted, trust me. Sometimes you need to unplug from your devices and backpack and just explore the beauty of our state. Love the gulch for me 10/10 would go again! 💖
My kids LOVED this amazing camp! A community of wonderful counselors leading epic adventures all over the southwest. Gorgeous landscapes, delicious food, brilliant and creative games, campfires every night... A unique and unforgettable summer experience for children and teenagers
Had one of the best summers when I went on the all girls trek TT in 2013. We traveled all over New Mexico and experienced so many thing that, even as a resident, I hadn't done before. I try to go back and visit every year at rendezvous when all of the campers, employees, alumni, family, and friends go and spend the day at base camp.
Cottonwood gulch is a beautiful place to experience and relax. I attended a company meeting there and enjoyed all the amenities . small cabins for excellent the people that work there are there for your needs and you can tell that they really enjoy their job . The trails lead through the forest and different areas they are simply beautiful and peaceful. they were about 25 people in our group and we were completely taken care of . parking is good and directions they're very good. I suggest you to go and check this out , you will enjoy every moment.
