The City of Cortez Recreation Center runs Playground Days, a full-day summer child care program for ages 5-10, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., beginning a week after school ends and finishing a week before it resumes. Kids visit local parks, pools and the library and take part in supervised games and activities. Staffing is one adult per ten children, with the program capped at 50 participants. The center is at 425 Roger Smith Ave.

★Kolorado KyleAwful place for swimming, staff are terrible, life gaurds are rude and unprofessional, kids weren't allowed to bring toys (foam toys) and since when weren't we allowed to wear tshirts?? This place has gone down hill and I doubt they would to anything to change that, we'll just continue to go to Durango Rec Center, least they treat you better there and they are WAY more professional.
★★★★★Start LovingThe rec center staff & facility is a treasure. World-class. I have to write it, or I'll stand up and shout it here in the lobby and probably get thrown out. So I'll write it instead. Lol I'm here a lot. Arriving early in the morning, sitting and working, working out upstairs. The staff is world class. The facility is world-class, tho more and more in disrepair, certainly not due to lack of attention from the staff, accelerating lack of funds. I'm guessing it flows from the top, Creighton Wright setting the example, infusing the caring compassionate spirit, and it flows through the rest of the staff. It's really breathtaking. A privilege to witness and enjoy. Along with the rest of the city, it will crumble more and more rapidly unless a miracle occurs and the city council steps up to the 40 to 60 hour a week work output as apparently we see in the similarly paid city council in Colorado springs. That would take a miracle because certainly Cortez doesn't expect them to do that. They'd have to find a tremendous amount of love for the 9000 residents of our city, and courage. And nothing less could engage the council to that level, to confront and overcome the decades of neglect of our local economy here. Anyway, it sure is a marvel to behold this rec center staff and the facility. Well done. James
★★★★★mhI've been to a lot of rec centers for a hot shower while camping and this place impressed me. $3 for a shower with a free large towel, and the facility is very nice and clean. Friendly staff to boot!
★★★★★In We GoVery nice medium sized rec. center in Cortez. It has a decent sized weight room, racket ball, activity rooms, swimming pools, pool tables and a climbing wall, plus much more. We came for the showers, and were very impressed with how clean and well maintained the locker rooms and family shower areas were. The use of just the showers is $3 and a day pass is only $6. We interacted with three of the staff members and they were all very polite and helpful.
★★★★★A FAnthony is a great spin class instructor, the front desk staff is friendly!! I wish there was a sauna and hot tub though, I would donate if there was a fundraising for those. I like this rec center though, it has excellent prices for everything thank you!!
