Coastal Expeditions, a longtime Shem Creek eco-outfitter in Mount Pleasant, runs summer day camps built around Lowcountry nature and paddling. Camp Cape Romain (ages 7-11) fills days with kayaking, seining and crabbing, maritime-forest hikes, birds-of-prey demonstrations, swimming and a visit to the Sewee Center. A separate Maritime + Paddle Camp focuses on kayak and stand-up paddleboard skills. Counselors hold lifeguard, first aid/CPR and ACA kayaking certifications.

She was top notch to assure that we had a great time and was a plethora of information with the area and ecology. Our youngest son was captivated with hunting shark teeth and Abbi’s charisma only enhanced his interest. They were very punctual with time. It was overcast the day we went so weather was perfect for an August day. We saw dolphins and even a quick glimpse of a manatee. From start to finish this was a great experience and found this group to be more than accommodating to any issue we may have had.
