The Freeman Center is Christopher Newport University's athletics arena in Newport News, opened in 2000 with seating for about 2,500 and home to the school's basketball, volleyball and indoor track and field programs. It is the site of CNU's own Captains summer camps, run by university coaching staff and current CNU players: Captains Basketball Camp under head men's coach John Krikorian runs two four-day sessions in late July, with a three-day shooting camp in early July and separate Captains Girls Basketball and Captains Volleyball camps. Camps are open enrollment and held on the CNU campus.

We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact CNU Freeman Center directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.

Powered by GoogleStaff has to literally babysit kids during men's basketball games. The police & security staff have to chase kids out of the back area while their parents encourage them to play there.
Great place to watch basketball
Kids had a blast. They sold out of general admission for 5$ so we had to buy 10$ tickets, seats were more comfortable. Basketball action was fun we will be back!
Perfect location to hold your events. There are so many options in regards to room sizes, and this is especially useful when you have a large conference that each room can be utilized for other things such as break out sessions. The Field House is kept pristine and a perfect location for large scale events from sporting events to competutions.
We visited the Freeman Center second time yesterday for the yearly indoor hockey tournament. The place is very clean modern and well built just like the rest of CNU campus but this center is definitely a pull for athletes applying to this place for further education.
