★★★★★Shawn HornsbyThe West Monroe Community Center serves the residents in the neighborhoods surrounding Riverbend and Riser Elementary Schools with a well maintained building and a staff devoted to preserving and encouraging a spirit of community. The building also serves as a shelter in cases of natural disasters and severe weather. During hurricanes, evacuees from South Louisiana can shelter there. Seniors and those who may not have adequate housing for extremely cold weather have used the building during winter when temperatures dip below freezing (not an annual occurrence for Louisiana). The campus includes three buildings primarily: an administrative building for offices with some classrooms, a learning center/ shelter, and a gymnasium. The gymnasium hosts basketball leagues from time to time.
