Camp Tall Turf is a Christian overnight camp on 240 acres of Manistee National Forest wilderness along Lake Campbell in Walkerville, about 70 miles north of Grand Rapids, founded in 1968 and run by Tall Turf Ministries with an explicit mission of racial, socio-economic and cultural reconciliation. Campers ages 8-13 stay in cabins at one counselor per eight campers and take part in swimming, canoeing, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, drama, dance, choir, cookouts, an overnight tent campout, outdoor sports and Bible study. Fees are set by session length, family size and income, and the camp provides transportation and financial assistance so cost is not a barrier. All staff pass two background checks and a state central registry clearance.

★Brian TorresThis place is operated by complete liars that claim to be christians.i found their lies to be disgusting and repetitive.Even the "pastor" is a liar.I felt like I was in the twilight zone around them,thinking to myself "does anyone tell the truth here"...they also have zero experience in dealing with groups of kids ,the kids are worse than the adults under their watch , uncontrollable and combative because they lack respect for the older deaf white lady in charge or the fat black man who is only concerned with money. I'd advice any parent to not send their kids to this camp, especially if the child doesn't know how to stand up to being bullied by largely unsupervised kids.
★★Alex SanchezGreat for campers, not for staff. Counselor staff, including teenagers as young as 14 weren't fed after the director, Klarissa, had the wrong head count. We were told she'd get us food. Not only were the never told, but when another counselor told us 6 HOURS later, she had given us bread, jelly, and butter (regular butter, not peanut). When I asked Klarissa and the assistant director, David, about it, neither wanted to be held accountable and put the blame back on us. Jesus fed the 5,000 with bread and fish. They can't even feed 60 with a full pantry. Oh, Brian the chef is great. He's the only real leader there. Spoke truth and fed hungry staff and teenagers off the clock. They dunk staff in the lake for getting mail or having to use the bathroom and a few moments late to meetings. David is a bully and doesn't consider the feelings of others. Klarissa, I saw yelling at the teenage staff multiple times and they bullied one young teen girl in particular. Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven." //// The location is great and I'm sure your kids will have fun. Just know how bad the staff get treated. I learned all I needed to know after 5 days and went back home to Texas. Klarissa and David need to go or get their act together and learn what it means to be a leader, to take accountability. I hope Marcus, the CEO gets this straightened out because I do believe in the message he wants to share and he has a beautiful location with great weather. I really do pray for the success of Tall Turf.
