Camp Sequoia
Private
Camp Sequoia is an overnight (residential) summer camp on the Perkiomen School campus in Pennsburg, about an hour northwest of Philadelphia, for boys ages 8-18 and girls ages 9-16 who have ADHD, social anxiety, or learning differences that affect social skills. It pairs a traditional camp program (sports, STEM, arts, indoor swimming, archery, outdoor skills, weekly trips) with Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking framework. Three- and six-week sessions are offered, plus a road-trip option for older teens.

Powered by GoogleHello, this is Elliott from the Centers division. I have just gotten home after completing 5 weeks of camp (missed a week), and this is my second year here. Compared to last year, the environment changed so much that making friends was a lot easier and their was newer staff. Here's a few good things I would like to list out: -As mentioned earlier, it was easier to make friends in a newer environment with newer people compared to last year. -Some of the newer staff are very likable people. -Trips were more fun and a lot better then last year. - Food is amazing, as always. -Activities were so much fun and very exciting. -Some aspects of camp have faced vast improvements, particularly in specific activities. -The program team are always at their best. -Because of the newer staff, it became easier to open up to others about the problems you are facing here at camp. -Brian and Artrice always seem to do phenomenal jobs in running camp. Alright, that's enough highlights for me. Before I post this review, I'd like to thank everyone for providing us campers with unforgettable experiences and memories, that we made along the way. It was great getting to do very fun and unique stuff, and camp always seems to improve everytime you come back. Well I'll be posting this review now, thank you so much.
Camp Sequoia was a transformational experience for our 16 year old, who has long struggled to make social connections. After a number of so-so summer camp experiences, we had decided maybe he is “not a camp kid.” It was just we had not found the right camp. He loved everything about Sequoia. He forged durable friendships with kids he continues to stay in contact with. The staff is spectacular: empathetic, patient and genuinely invested in the success of every camper. We were particularly impressed with the report we received at the end of the session, which astutely identified some of our son’s social challenges and had concrete suggestions for helping him overcome them. But most importantly, Sequoia is a fun place. The programming is terrific, with offerings that spoke to our child’s interests, executed with energy and creativity. He loved every one of the off-campus trips. He’s going back next summer for six weeks, which is something we never thought he would enthusiastically enlist to do at any camp.
My experience working at Camp Sequoia has had an incredible impact on me, and a large part of that was seeing the huge social and emotional growth of the campers I worked with, forming trusting, encouraging, and heart-warming relationships with them, being able to help campers form friendships while providing tools to communicate thoughts and emotions appropriately, and being surrounded by such a genuine and kind-hearted community of staff by my side. Campers want to meet others similar to them, but sometimes they just need a little bit of guidance to make friends, maintain them, communicate well by expressing emotions, needs and thoughts in more proactive ways and respond to conflict appropriately. This is what we are able to do at camp, and it is such a rewarding experience. Staff spend time with campers from wakeup to bedtime, and working here requires a lot of energy, dedication, and patience, but it is totally worth it because you can see how campers mature and develop into improved, happier, and more confident versions of themselves by the end of the summer. The information children learn at camp is knowledge for life, and continues to be important outside of camp. I loved the deep and meaningful talks I had with campers, and finding exciting and unique ways to working with them according to their own goals, needs, and interests. I am so thankful that so many kids told me how much I helped them, that I was there for them, never gave up, and made their time at camp fun. Camp Sequoia is such a special place that I definitely recommend, and campers are truly in great hands.
Our son had a life-changing experience at Camp Sequoia! He loved the staff and felt great being around other campers "just like him". His exposure to so many outdoor activities at camp has helped him discover new extracurriculars and hobbies as an outlet for his energies. His participation in daily discussions about coping with his ADHD and anxiety have improved his communication and self-advocacy skills. His school year has been much better following the camp experience!
Imagine a place where everyone understands and accepts your son for exactly who he is. Envision providing your child with an enriched summer camp experience filled with friends, counselors and staff who truly "get it" and activities that are interesting and sustainable for your son and his new buddies. What if during the school year, you heard your child ask how long it is until camp starts again so he can be in his happy summer spot? These are the joyful, bring-you-to-tears realities of a Camp Sequoia summer. Kids having the time of their lives in a nurturing environment while parents can be worry-free. It's a no-brainer decision. We love Camp Sequoia. Is it summer yet?
