Camp Rancho Alegre is a residential outdoor and Scouting camp on 217 acres in the Santa Ynez Mountains overlooking Lake Cachuma, about 20 miles north of Santa Barbara. Run by the Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre, it hosts environmental-education programs and Woodland Discovery Camp, a 5-day residential summer camp for ages 10-12 combining natural sciences with traditional camp activities. It has historically also hosted Boy Scout and Cub Scout summer sessions.

Obviamente tienen que juntarse varios grupos ( cabañas) para que sea más divertida la competencia; eso sí, tienes que hacer la caminata de las 9 millas, es todo un reto, pero la vista y la sensación de llegar al " Rey Roble" lo vale. Recuerda llevar calzado cómodo y que no sea de suela plana, ya que parte del camino está con pendiente y puedes resbalar. If you want to give your students a magical experience, you have to visit Rancho Alegre Camp and let the hiking leaders guide you. Each hike has something special to teach, and the young staff members keep the group entertained and motivated with their enthusiasm. Of course, several groups (cabins) should join together to make the competition more fun. And yes — you definitely have to do the 9-mile hike! It is a real challenge, but the view and the feeling of reaching the “King Oak” are absolutely worth it.
