Residential summer camp on a 240-acre Rhinebeck campus for young people affected by social, emotional or learning challenges, including those on the autism spectrum, run by the nonprofit Ramapo for Children. It serves more than 500 campers each summer, from nonverbal elementary-age children to teens building conflict-resolution skills, in a community deliberately mixing a broad range of cognitive, social and emotional abilities. Staffing is close to one-to-one, with counsellors drawn from special education, social work, psychology and related fields. Sessions run from one to eight weeks between late June and late August, a separate one-week August session is reserved for campers aged 16 and older, and some scholarship assistance is available based on family income and need.
