I remember camping at Camp Prarie Schooner in the early 1960s. Many fond memories,, baby copperhead snake killed and dissected, big tents with wooden floors, Girl Scout dining, swimming, horse back riding. Poison ivy sumac. Wow 60 years ago.

Generally speaking the grounds are nice! However, they should NOT be allowed to rent these perma tents! We walked in and the flaps were broken, there was a mouse living in more than one, all the cots had mouse droppings on them and spider nests. It’s one thing to expect to clean a little bit this was just not even safe! The wood on some was rotting and holes in the roofs and weak floors in some. The one site person was nice enough to get us moved to some better kept perma tents and while those were clean and better maintained they weren’t much better. The bathroom facilities were far but nice and they had nice/clean ports potty close by. We didn’t see poison ivy. One of the paths was just not safe and part of it went right by a large drop off into a river. It was narrow and no safety guards. Sunday morning we were booked to do the ropes course at 9. At some point our reservation was changed to 10 with no notice so we showed up an hour early. Then the instructors showed up at 9:40 and refused to start early - instead opting to sit next to our girls while they played on their phones and had personal conversations. Super unimpressed.

Proud to be a Girl Scout! This camp is beautifully situated next to the Little Blue. Who would ever know this awesome sprawling camp, right in the heart of the city.
