This place has amazing potential but unfortunately it's best days are behind it. Camp looks and feels more broken down every visit. Pool is nothing but a mosquito breeding ground, in my many years of coming I've never seen it in good, usable condition. A couple of the cabins now have holes in the ceiling and often the facilities are broken and not repaired before large group events. I'm not sure where the money is going for this place but it is NOT being used to improve Camp experiences or amenities.

I was a camper ever summer from 90s to 2000s. If I could I would still be there every summer! It was the best memories from my childhood and I learned so much! I learned to swim. Arts and crafts. Archery. Hiking and trail making. Canoeing. And so much more i even taught swimming lessons and was a life guard. It was an amazing experience every year! I highly recommend for all ages!!! I attended Camp Niwana in the 1970's as a Camp Fire girl. I had some of the best experiences of my life there! I was a city girl and definitely out of my element. Getting in touch with nature, no air conditioning, learning how to build camp fires, crafting only with things found in the outdoors, swimming, canoeing and learning to do so many things I had never done before was wonderful! I went back as a counselor because I loved it so much and it gave me a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors! Fast forward to this year when our grandson attended camp for the first time. Still the same camp, just older, still the same wonderful experiences. The cabins are screened with no A/C but have lights and electricity for fans. He said he actually had to use a blanket at night so it wasn't hot. He did all the things I did so many years ago and LOVED it SO much he begged to go back for a second week! He is there right now, having a blast again! If you think an older (not dilapidated) rustic camp in the beautiful piney woods would be torture for your kids, go to their Facebook page, look at the pictures and see the smiles on the faces of every child! They will have the most fun and memorable times of their lives at Camp Niwana!

This place is cool. Yes it's old and needs some attention in some places.But it's a camp not a 5-star hotel. It was our grandsons first time at camp. Today we picked him up and he is ready to go back. So we will wash all his stuff and he is going back tomorrow. My wife went to this camp as a child and then became a counselor for a while in the 70's. But it's still a great place for your kids to learn about the outdoors and have fun.

We go almost every month to this campground and have been for almost 5 years now. It is one of my favorite places to be. And while yes some of the buildings are a little out dated, it adds to the charm. I enjoy the old world feel. The mattresses on the bunk beds are always comfortable and like most places you must bring your own bedding. Yes dead bugs are there but it is nature. I will sweep up some dead June bugs any day for the sight of lightning bugs and a sky full of stars. It makes me feel like I am a kid again staying at summer camp.
