Camp Mah-Kee-Nac

I spent six summers here, starting in 1954, with a break and return later, after 1957 post my father's death, my mother remarring, and my stepbrother demanding to only go back to his old summer camp. My mother refused to send us to different summer camps because my mother refused to feel that she would have to attend 2 visiting days at 2 separate camps. I, frankly, would have preferred they never visited. Despite Mac-Kee-Nac being a "Jewish Indian" summer camp strongly devoted to athletics, and I being a pretty unathletic short kid with really poor eye-hand coordination, it was a wonderful experience. I became a string swimmer and tried to spend all my time at the waterfront swimming, water skiing, sailing, and canoeing. Those summers I spent at Mac-Kee-Nac I remember being some of the best summers of my life.

My child had an amazing experience at this camp! Each day was packed with fun activities, and he learned valuable life skills. From stand-up paddleboarding and fencing to learning to ride a bike, he was introduced to new sports and made wonderful friends. The camp boosted his confidence, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Highly recommended! (And he’s already counting down the days until next summer!)

What a beautiful spot this is! We were here for PanMass unpaved this weekend. The cabins were above what was expected (with actual hot water, showers and toilets in each!) The grounds are lovely as is the lake (seen from shore only- we watched a couple hearty soles give it a very brief plunge- clearly COLD!) Loved the colorful signs in the mess hall!!

An amazing camp. It is exactly what summer camp should be. My son just finished his 2nd year there and can't wait to go back next year. He is building such amazing friends, the kids and the staff such good people. The regular activities and special events they put on are incredible. Even the food gets rave reviews. They take such good care of the kids. They get to try new activities and gain a new independence. The directors and staff are so attentive and amazing for both parents and the boys. Couldn't recommend Mah-Kee-Nac enough.

I can't say enough good things about this camp. My son started going there 3 years ago. We had a plan of sending him for 3 weeks and he ended up staying for the whole summer. When you get letters home saying "Thank you for sending me here" and "This is the most amazing place" you know you are in good hands. The directors and entire staff really make this camp a "home" for the summer. There are many summer camps out there, but it is the creativity of the staff that make Mah Kee Nac a stand out. The programs and special events that they put on and take place every week continue to surprise and astound both the campers and parents alike. They top themselves every single year and it keeps the kids coming back. If you are looking for a traditional summer camp for boys, I urge you to check this one out. You will not be disappointed.
