Camp Jack (the Jack Rua Camp for Children with Diabetes) is a six-week day camp in July and August for children ages 5-14 living with Type 1 diabetes, along with their siblings and friends. It pairs a traditional camp program - swimming, games, arts and crafts, and outdoor time on multiple athletic fields - with hands-on diabetes education and nutrition instruction. A registered nurse is on site, a local pediatrician serves as camp health care consultant, and staff are trained by a certified diabetes educator; enrollment and staff-to-camper ratios are deliberately small.
