Dear Camp Chaparral Team, I am following up on the feedback form I personally completed and submitted at the end of our recent group stay (over 50 participants, including youth and sponsors from our church). As the youth pastor, I provided my personal phone number and email in hopes of continuing the conversation, but unfortunately, neither I nor anyone from our church received any response or acknowledgment, despite outlining several legitimate issues. This leads me to believe that these issues have not been addressed or fixed, which could lead to future groups getting blindsided by them as well. To recap and expand on the key concerns: • Policy Enforcement: Your guidelines clearly state a no-phones policy to create a distraction-free environment focused on spiritual growth and connection. However, phones were widely used by campers, sponsors, and staff, which diminished the experience our kids were excited about—a meaningful break from digital distractions. • Dress Code: There was little to no visible enforcement of the outlined dress code, leading to inconsistencies across groups. • Cabin Comfort: Our cabin side stayed uncomfortably hot and stagnant (over 78°F) throughout the entire stay. Despite repeated requests, the thermostat remained locked in a box with no adjustments possible. In stark contrast, the other half of the cabin (divided by a wall) had an unlocked thermostat set to 66°F. We ultimately had to purchase multiple box fans out-of-pocket to make the space livable. • Food Safety: Our entire group were served chicken that was raw and severely undercooked. This is a serious health risk, as undercooked poultry can contain harmful bacteria (such as Salmonella or Campylobacter) that cause food poisoning. Thankfully our group caught this early so no one ate it, but this incident raised significant concerns about kitchen preparation and quality control standards. We paid over $13,000 for this stay, expecting a safe, intentional, Christ-centered experience aligned with your mission of fostering spiritual growth and wholesome recreation. While we appreciate the beautiful facilities and potential of the camp, these issues made the overall experience disappointing. As a result, our church has chosen to redirect this year’s camp budget to a facility that demonstrates a stronger, more consistent emphasis on God-centered programming, operational care, guest safety, and responsive communication. We had gone to camp Chaparral 10 years prior and have a wonderful experience, I pray there are positive changes so that Camp Chaparral can get back to being a meaningful destination for church groups.

Was not the best. Worst part was there was bed bugs and I got bites all over my hips and torso. There were also chiggers we sat in the grass last day of worship and the next morning my legs were itchy and bumpy from chiggers. Also lack of activity’s

It was a beautiful weekend with multi bed rooms. The scenery is so calm and pretty.

It was over all a really fun time and I had a great experience but at the end me and some friends realized our "bug bites" looked a bit off and we realized they were bed bug bites. So it was over all a good camp but it did have bed bugs.
