Camp Burnt Gin is a residential summer camp near Sumter for South Carolina children and young adults ages 7-25 who have a physical disability or chronic illness, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, seizures or spinal cord injury. It is operated by the South Carolina Department of Public Health and has run since 1945. From early June to mid-August the camp holds four six-day sessions for ages 7-15, two six-day sessions for ages 16-20 and a four-day session for ages 21-25. Counselors live with campers at a 1:3 ratio, two registered nurses staff the infirmary, and camp is free to families.

I had never been away from home for more than 2 days before this experience. Unfortunately, Summer of 2018 would be my last year at CBG as a camper due to moving to Cincinnati, for my dad's job. I will DEFINITELY be back as a counselor, or at least volunteer. I have a lot of great memories such as Mr. Matthew (our head counselor that year) getting mad at my friend Dustin and I, and told us to stop squeaking those old chairs in the rec hall! 😝 great place. This place would be different without Mrs. Marie! Also, thanks to the person that left a 2 star review stating "bad roads. " Have you ever been passed the front gates of this place? Doubt it. Don't write a review if you've never experienced the place, first. Just pull the trigger, and send a loved-one here! They will never forget!
