Powered by Google"Cub Camp" was so fun there when I was a little scout. Jeez, that was like 35 years ago! I'm honestly amazed that it's still there and functioning. That's great! 👍
It has been several years since we visited for summer camp so I will comment based on the camp property rather than the program. I will trust that it has improved since we were there. The camp is a bit remote, which is nice. It is a fair drive to any major (or even minor) cities. The real bonus to it's location is the fact that Scouts can, and do, literally walk to and from the dunes. The dining hall is large enough for the size camp. It is quaint and falls in between new and modern and old and falling down. I have seen both extremes at Scout camps. The camp offices are relatively new. The program areas are rather spread out. It is a fair walk to waterfront from the center of camp. As adults, we regularly logged at least ten miles daily to check on the activities of our Scouts. The waterfront is in a large bay-like area that connects (within a mile or do) to the Pacific Ocean. On the day we did swim checks, it was extremely choppy and difficult to swim; especially on the outer lane. This may impact Scouts who aren't quite as strong.
A wonderful Scouting America camp for the Scouts in the region. Staff do a fantastic job putting together a wonderful program, good eating, safe and most of all FUN for Scouts and Scouters alike. Bonus is the close vicinity to the Dunes State Park that makes a wonderful late.afternoon side trip from camp.
Camp Baker is the heart of Scouting in the Oregon Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America. Available for weekend camping year round to Scouting units, it provides affordable outdoor experience to the Scouts. As a week-long summer camp, it offers a mountain top experience to Scouts building memories to last a lifetime...top notch leadership, food, program and staff, Camp Baker is your "Gateway to Adventure! ⚜️
I have been to 6 Boy scout camps. This one is my favorite. We drove up from California. This is my second time coming to this camp. I enjoy especially the mossy trees and ferns. The deer casually walking around add a magic touch. I also like the laid back nature of this camp, no inspections. It feels like you are in fern gully. Also because it is coastal Oregon the weather is on the mild side. Sand dunes are an option for an outbound adventure and beginning scuba are special to this camp. For food I enjoyed that salad bar was always available. Really nice upgraded personal showers too!!! Nice experience.
