But apparently there is an issue and 100s of kids from this camp have had to get rabies shots. The shots are horrible! Also, they cost almost 20,000$ for the shots, but after insurance, I only was paying 3000$. And it's 4 week shots, you have to go to the hospital for 4 weeks in a row to get the shots. So, if you want your child to be exposed to bats in the cabins when they are sleeping and have to get rabies shots, then send your kid here. The camp was not sympathetic to the "entire cabin" that my daughter was in. The whole cabin was told to get rabies shots for the kids. If you contract rabies you die in 24 hours so really we had no options. This place should be shut down until they act responsibly and do something about the bats in the cabins.
They have rentals year round! They are out of Columbus, but rentals are in the hocking hills:) The cabins are all well stocked with everything except your own food, blankets and towels. Such an awesome get away!
My experience is only in staying in the lodge and eating in the dining hall. Staff are very kind and helpful. Food was great! Rooms are very nice and well furnished with two bunkbeds in each room . The upper bunk is high enough for an adult to sit on the lower one . Shower room well maintained with private showers and curtain for privacy. View from Lodge onto lake is breath taking ! It is a very challenging to climb the stairs from the cabins by the lake to parking lot level as the grade is fairly steep. There are cabins by the dining hall and parking allowed in front of them. I can't comment on them.
AWFUL! My daughter was picked up on the 2nd day. They told me she was “homesick”. She has done longer summer camps than this one with no problems. As I spoke with her in the car on the way home, she told me how uncomfortable she was. They stressed the importance of pronouns (answered this question on paperwork that was turned in to camp) and her counselor had a naked picture of a woman above her bed. My daughter was uncomfortable. She wanted to come home. Did they give me money back after me explaining how uncomfortable and how ILLEGAL it is to share naked photos with children? NO!! They told me their policy is no refunds. So, if you are looking for a TRUE CHRISTIAN camp, this is not it!
Wonderful time. Our church was able to use the camp site. The many trials and water front they have. With the fireplace. The many cabins you can choose from. To the amazing cooking staff. Them being super accommodating. Amazing view and atmosphere. Was a treasure to be there.
