Camelot For Children

Hello everyone. As encouraged by Facebook to write a review on here I thought I would. I just wanted to write and inform you of what a horrific experience I have had with Camelot for Kids. Being a special needs mother we try and find places and experiences where our daughter will be accepted. We thought Camelot would be a welcoming place but the director, Emily proved us wrong and that even though this organization is for special needs children they will NOT except everyone. Our story goes like this….. we went to two events provided by Camelot. At the second event we were approached by Emily stating our daughter most likely wont be accepted because she puts her fingers in her mouth and it’s “disgusting” to clarify when I daughter gets nervous or very excited yes she does use a chewy because she has an oral sensitivity. We work really hard with her to stop but it’s just one of her comforts to soothe her when she is nervous or overly excited. It’s not the worse thing in the world, or at least I wouldn’t think it was a big deal. I wrote and email of how disappointed I was and I guess just to humor me and not get a bad rep Emily told me to apply for summer camp (I regret doing it). So I applied and she was accepted ONLY if my husband or I would go to camp with her. IM SORRY BUT WE BOTH WORK FULL TIME. I feel Emily knew we both worked and couldn’t take off work. I am very disheartened by this organization that is supposed to be inclusive to special needs children. When I asked for the board members email address to tell them my story I was told by Emily “they don’t have email”. I have the emails for proof of everything said. I just wanted to let whoever would listen know my experience with Camelot and I hope no one goes through what my daughter and family went through with them.

Absolutely horrible organization, if I could give them 0 stars. I will be reaching out to attorney general to file a complaInt. They promised us a spot and lied to us for a year, only to tell us they would not accept our daughter. They are so unorganized and even if they had a spot, I would not send my child here. They have a summer camp where they claim to have 30ish kids and only 1 or two adults to oversee the kids, and a few high school students. I am not sure how they can supervise all the kids, this is just a disaster waiting to happen. UPDATE: I did contact you directly and you said you were going to look into it. Never heard back from you.

Camelot is a great place to be! We have had wonderful experiences and great success with the programs. More importanly the staff, volunteers, buddies are fantastic! They really go above and beyond to work with parents and children. My boys are very happy!

It's been a little over a year now since our Granddaughter has been a part of the Camelot family. The services they offer the children are second to none; plus, it is all at no cost to the families and the range of activities and services are expanding. The children feel like they are a part of something and they are accepted for who they are, which in some cases is a new experience for some of the children. If you are looking for an organization to donate too, I can't say enough about Camelot for Children; their Board and Staff are heavily dedicated to the well-being of the children which is rare in this world.

Camelot for Children provides wonderful programming for children with special needs. As a speech therapist who works with children with a variety of disabilities, I know firsthand that parents are often looking for a safe, comfortable, and fun place to send their children; I always recommend Camelot. Camelot has an amazing volunteer staff who work extremely hard to ensure that every child who comes to Camelot has a great experience. They are consistently successful in providing the welcoming environment that so many families are looking for (many children have been involved in Camelot for 10+ years). Thank you Camelot for your dedication in ensuring that every child has a place they can call a second home!
