The Butterfly House & Aquarium, part of Sioux Falls' Great Plains Zoo, runs ZooCamp summer day camps where kids explore animals, insects, and marine life through hands-on activities. Sessions come as half-day (9am-12pm or 1-4pm) or full-day (9am-4pm), and overnight 'sleep with the fishes' adventures are offered for ages 10-12. Every camper gets a camp t-shirt.

Powered by GoogleI really enjoyed the aquarium and the butterfly exhibit. What a great way to spend an hour or two. The price was so reasonable. I paid just $15.
I absolutely love this place! Very interesting and fun for the kids and even adults to learn and experience the interactions with butterflies and sea creatures!
I enjoyed this stop! The only downside is its a bit small. But the size was absolutely perfect for my almost toddler. I did zero research before stopping here, so maybe they size isnt surprising to other people. But that was the only negative I have about this stop. The fish looked well cared for, and they had a fun little tank with an acrylic window you could stand up in. They had jelly fish as well, very large ones! The butterfly section was pretty neat, but we didnt spent much time in there bc my son couldn't crawl in there and he was fussy to be put down. The butterfly area was much bigger than the aquarium. And honestly considering its a land locked state its nice to have an aquarium at all. Im spoiled with east coast aquariums like in Charleston SC and west coast ones like Monteray Bay. Don't expect that and you'll have a great time! The staff were super friendly, and they had a fun program going on for kids to decorate gingerbread shaped ornaments. And they were giving out free gingerbread cookies and apple juice! We just stopped here along our road trip to stretch our legs (and this is a great place for that) either we were lucky they had an event or they often have events!
This place cool fun for the kids. Although they dont offer military discount. Its still fun to go and see.
This was great fun for my 5&6 year olds! They were a little disappointed that the touch tanks were closed when we went but I also completely understand the need. It's not a large place and I don't know the price completely justified the experience but it was fun. I do recommend renting a butterfly feeder, the kids really enjoyed that part!
