I took my son there for a tour and potential membership. Rather than receive him with open arms, he was made to feel other because of his ADHD. I am not one to send him somewhere that is not equipped to handle his needs, but the boys and girls club specifically calls out inclusivity in their mission, including all kids with physical, emotional, developmental, and psychological disabilities. To completely refuse him, when he was not melting down, he was obviously just excited to see the facilities is not right. To have that conversation in front of the child is unacceptable. Molly was rude, she was uncaring, and made him feel absolutely horrible about himself, none of which is the purpose of the boys and girls club. The national organization literally calls out programs that are supposed to be in place to help kids with ADA protected issues. To simply refuse service because a child has ADHD is an ADA violation. It would be different if they gave him a chance and it did not work out, but to flat out deny him the opportunity is not ok. I was disgusted by how Molly, the Director of Program Services, treated my son while doing something as simple as a meet and greet tour. I obviously will not send my son somewhere he is not wanted, but they are supposed to be a welcoming environment for all kids, and that was absolutely not the case, which her flat out refusing my son membership because of his ADA protected diagnosis, which we were open about, and his excitement for the opportunity.
